A new year is upon us and that means it’s time for some New Years Resolutions. Each year, millions of people vow to lose weight, volunteer more, stop drinking soda, etc. This year, stick to your resolution and make a change for the better! 2015 is so last year! Let’s make 2016 the happiest and healthiest year yet.
Here are 5 New Years Resolution ideas to adopt this new year.
Get In Shape
Getting in shape has been the most popular New Years Resolution for decades and decades. Join a gym and lose weight are the two most popular resolutions people vow to do. But there are other things you can do besides joining a gym. Of course going to the gym is a great thing, but we live in Southern California, get outside, it’s more fun that way! To kick-start your outdoor better health adventure go on nightly runs on the beach or in your neighborhood, hike one of the many trails there are around San Diego County once a week, take the kids out for a long walk, go on weekly bike rides, jog to work, or participate in yoga classes on the beach or in a park. There is a ton you can do to stay active and get into shape outdoors! Set goals and it will happen.
Sleep is one of the most important things for your body. Not getting enough sleep can result in many negative health issues such as anxiety, depression, forgetfulness, and is also linked to diseases such as Alzheimer’s. It is recommended that adults get 7-8 hours of sleep per night. According to WebMD.com, “…people over the age of 45 who got less than 6 hours of sleep a night doubled their chances in having a stroke or heart attack and were also more likely to have heart failure.” Getting enough sleep is much more important than most people realize. So get to bed earlier or set that alarm an hour later, you need your sleep.
Save More Money
Saving money is essential for every person of every age. Planning for your future, saving for your kids’ college fund or even for a future emergency, is crucial. Try to eat in more and out less. A lunch or dinner out every day may only be about $10, but spending $10 every day adds up. Look into your mobile plan, see if there is anywhere to save money or switch to a different provider that is cheaper. Look into more affordable insurance, like with HWP Insurance. These are just some ideas on how to cut back spending and save more money.
Be more adventurous! Instead of having that usual lazy Sunday every week, use your weekends to explore your city! There is so much to see wherever you live. In San Diego, especially in North County, there are a ton of different fun activities to take part in, views to see and adventures to have. Find local hiking trails you may not have been to, view points, new beaches, new restaurants, different neighborhoods and other fun things. Take an adventure and have more fun!
Stay In Touch
When is the last time you talked to that long lost uncle, friend, old neighbor, or grandma and grandpa? Reach out to the ones you love and stay in touch. Rekindling old friendships and memories is one of the most rewarding things one can do. Plan a lunch date with an old friend, go on a beach walk with an old co-worker, or get on Skype and see the loved ones you have lost contact with. It’s always great to stay connected, so reach out to loved ones in the new year.
