Most Inland Marine policies that cover Tools and Equipment, scheduled and unscheduled, have an exclusion called “Theft From Unattended Vehicles”. In the event of a theft loss, if there are no signs of forced entry to your vehicle, tool box or camper shell, there may be no coverage on your policy.
How to keep safe from theft:
Most insurance companies want to make sure every effort has been made to keep your tools safe from theft. Proper precautions include keeping the vehicle in a locked garage at night, use of alarm systems, and locked tool boxes or camper shells. Companies are likely to deny a theft claim related to tools if they are left in the back of a truck, unsecured or left out in the open.
If you currently have an Inland Marine policy, we suggest you to check your policy and become familiar with the limits and exclusions provided.
