2014 is coming to an end and what better way to spend the final days of the year than with your family…and crafts?! If you are looking to get crafty with your kids this New Year’s Eve, we have some great DIY ideas from cute headwear to sweet treats!
New Year Glitter Headbands
What you will need:
- – Plain headband
- – Chipboard or wood numbers
- – White glue
- – Paint brush
- – Glitter
- – Hot Glue
Steps:
- Cover the numbers with white glue using a paintbrush.
- Place the glue-covered numbers onto the glitter to coat. (The example shows 2013 but you can change that very easily to 2015!)
- Set aside to dry. Repeat on the reverse side if you like.
- Using hot glue attach each of the numbers to the headband.

New Year Hats
What you will need:
- – Construction paper – any color you like
- – Stones of different colors and sizes
- – Scissors
- – Glue
- – Ribbons – any 2 bright colors
Steps:
- The first step is to make a cone from the construction paper.
- Cut out a little more than a quarter of the circle and fold it.
- Fold the construction paper to get the cone shape of desired size.
- Take 2 ribbons of different colors. Cut each small piece of ribbon into thin strips.
- Glue the ribbon to the construction paper.
- Now fold the construction paper again and glue the ends together so you get the cone shape with the ribbon strips hanging out.
- It’s time to decorate the hat, as you like!

New Year’s Eve Blowers
What you will need:
- – Blowers
- – Chiffon/Feathers/or whatever material you would like
- – Glue
Steps:
- Remove the old fringes (or paper cone).
- Cut a 4”-6” long piece of fabric, at least 3” wide.
- Snip fringes, about 1/4” wide until about 1” from the top.
- Use a glue stick to put glue along the top and wrap around the plastic piece.
New Year’s Eve Countdown Cookies
What you will need:
- – 2 round cookie cutters: 1 small, 1 large
- – Different color icings
- – Sprinkles
- – Sugar cookie dough
- – Cookie sheet
Steps:
- Using a larger circle cookie cutter cut out circles from rolled sugar dough. Then with a smaller cookie cutter cut out the middle of a couple of the circles. Bake according to sugar cookie directions.
- After they are completely cooled, ice the top cookie.
- To make the compartment to store the sprinkles, you will need to stack three cookies so the cookie with a hole in it is in the middle.
- Use the icing to connect the cookies.
