It’s always good to know what you have and be able to prove it in case of an emergency, loss or natural disaster. Start this new year off right, protect yourself by taking inventory of your belongings; from televisions to phones to furniture to jewelry and other valuables. If disaster struck, your home and everything in it was destroyed/damaged, could you list off by memory what you had and what each item was worth? Probably not. So, document your belongings to use in an insurance claim just in case life happens.
Take Pictures
Take pictures of your valuable items. Go around your home and snap a few pictures of each item, showing its condition, then jot down its value. Being able to show your insurance company what was lost, damaged or destroyed is very important when filing a claim.
Take a Video
Go around your home and take a video of your home’s condition and the valuable items in it. Record slowly room by room, stopping at each valuable belonging, narrating its condition and worth. This is one of the best things you can have when filing a claim. It proves what items you have, the condition of them and can be used when filing a claim.
Upload
After you’ve documented your valuables, store your documentation properly. Often times people leave their inventory list, pictures and/or video inside the home, where it is the most at risk, especially if something happens to the home the documentation is kept in. Store your info online; in Apple’s iCloud, DropBox or storage app on your computer or smartphone.
Storing your inventory documentation through the web is the smartest, best way to store important information. After you take proper pictures/videos, simply upload them onto your iCloud, DropBox or other online storing service account. This way you will never have to worry about where your inventory checklist and proof is! When you need to update or access it, you simply log into your account and that’s it. Upload info, pictures or videos from your computer or smartphone. And in the event you need to file an insurance claim, you’ll be protected and be able to prove what belongings you had.
