This year HWP participated in the Relay for Life walk in Escondido on 5/31-6/1 in honor of one of our longtime employees who has been battling breast cancer since 2012. As a group Team Jennie was able to raise over $4200 for the American Cancer Society and is still raising money in their efforts through August. If you have not already donated and would like to support, you can click the following link to the Team Jennie page to do so.
The HWP family came out in droves to show their support. Thank you to Barbara Birch, Sarah Field, Scott Purdy, Karen Estes, Chelsea Grell, Dustin Purdy, Dove Sholk, Lisa Zeluff, Lori Gallegos, Sara Stamper, & Nickie Einertson who came out to walk with us and keep us company during the day.
In all 30 people signed up to walk on our team. There were a total of 22 teams at the Relay and to date they raised a total of $47,854. The Relay started at 9am with a ceremony and then the first lap was completed by all of the survivors. At 9pm in the evening they held a ceremony of HOPE and lighting of the Luminarias. Jennie was a speaker at the ceremony when they lit the “O” in HOPE symbolizing the message of “One Day at a Time”. They sold over 500 luminarias and were able to light the track on both sides with them. It was a very emotional and uplifting ceremony and one we will not soon forget. The closing ceremony was at 9am on Sunday with a final “Fight Back” lap with everyone walking the track together.
